The Maharashtra Cricket Association is delighted to announce the return of Shaun Williams as Director of Cricket for the MCA Academy and Head Coach of the Senior Men’s team. Williams – who previously led MCA through one of its most memorable campaigns, guiding the side to the Ranji Trophy final during his earlier tenure – rejoins the association with a clear mandate: rebuild, mentor and drive performance across the pathway from academy to the senior side.
During his previous spell with MCA, Williams earned plaudits for his tactical acumen, player development focus and ability to unite a squad around a shared vision. That period culminated in a standout Ranji Trophy run that remains a proud chapter in Maharashtra cricket – a testament to his emphasis on discipline, conditioning and match-awareness. Now, restarting his journey at MCA, Williams brings that same blend of experience, modern
coaching methodology and long-term thinking to a renewed multi-year plan.
Role & Priorities
In his dual-role capacity, Williams will oversee:
Academy development: Curriculum design for age-group coaching, talent identification pathways, and coach education to ensure consistent methodology from U-14s through U-23s.
Senior team performance: Tactical planning, match preparation, and season-long performance strategies for multi-day and limited-overs competitions.
Player transition & welfare: Strengthening the bridge between academy graduates and the senior squad — including mentoring, individualized development plans and fitness regimes.
Support staff integration: Working closely with the bowling coach, strength & conditioning coach, physiotherapist, video analyst and team manager to deliver a high-performance environment.
Culture & leadership: Instilling a resilient, process-driven culture that combines professionalism with player empowerment.
What this means for MCA
Shaun Williams’ return signals MCA’s commitment to sustainable excellence: not only chasing short-term wins, but building a system that produces consistent performers who can step up to domestic and national levels. His track record of taking MCA to the Ranji final gives the association both credibility and a template for success – one that emphasizes youth development, tactical clarity, and robust preparation.
Players, coaches, and stakeholders can expect: A structured academy calendar with measurable milestones.
Increased exposure opportunities for promising academy players in practice matches and corporate fixtures.
Data-driven performance reviews and tailored improvement plans.
Renewed focus on long-format readiness ahead of the Ranji season. MCA welcomes Shaun Williams back to helm the Academy and senior unit. His return is both a homecoming and a strategic investment in Maharashtra’s cricketing future – bridging legacy success with a modern pathway to produce the next generation of state and national players.
